Behind the Bottle: How We Created Pride of Oud

Introduction — Why We Created Pride of Oud

Oud is one of the most recognized ingredients in perfumery, yet for many people, knowing about oud and actually experiencing real oud are two very different things.

That became the starting point for Pride of Oud.

We wanted to create a fragrance that could bring the wearer closer to the traditional experience of oud—the rich aroma of burning oud wood and bakhoor, the warmth of Middle Eastern homes, and the unforgettable fragrance atmosphere associated with Makkah and Madinah.

Our goal was not to create another perfume that simply uses oud as a supporting note. We wanted oud to be the identity of the fragrance.

To achieve that, we combined Hindi oud and Cambodian oud with real Malaysian oud wood pieces inside the bottle. As the natural oud wood remains immersed in the fragrance, it gradually releases its oils, adding depth and an evolving woody character to the composition over time.

Pride of Oud is part of the Pride Collection, where each fragrance gives one exceptional ingredient the recognition it deserves.

With Pride of Musk, musk takes center stage.

With Pride of Oud, oud tells the story.

The result is our interpretation of the traditional oud experience—deep, woody, warm, rich, and created to transport the wearer to the world of authentic oud and bakhoor.

The Vision — Let Oud Take Center Stage

The vision behind Pride of Oud was simple: create a truly oud-centered fragrance where oud itself takes the spotlight.

We didn't want oud to be a small supporting note hidden inside a complicated formula. We wanted to build the entire fragrance around the depth, richness, and natural character of oud—and take that experience one step further by placing a real Malaysian oud wood chunk inside the bottle.

To achieve this, we brought together three distinctive oud elements:

  • Malaysian Oud Wood Chunk — real oud wood placed inside the bottle, allowing its natural oils to gradually interact with the fragrance and contribute to its evolving woody character.
  • Hindi Oud Oil — bold, dark, smoky, earthy, and deeply complex, bringing the powerful traditional character of Indian oud with a rich, warm, woody, and slightly balsamic dry down.
  • Cambodian Oud Oil — rich, warm, and naturally sweet, adding smoother woody facets with nuances reminiscent of honey, caramel, aged wood, and subtle fruitiness.

Each oud brings something different.

Hindi Oud brings the darkness and power.
Cambodian Oud brings warmth and richness.
Malaysian Oud Wood brings natural depth and an evolving woody character.

Together, they create a layered oud experience that feels powerful yet beautifully rounded.

The goal was never to make oud disappear behind other ingredients.

The goal was to let oud take center stage.

The Pride Collection — An Ingredient Takes Center Stage

Pride of Oud is part of the philosophy behind the Pride Collection—a collection created to give exceptional fragrance ingredients the recognition they deserve.

The idea is simple:

One remarkable ingredient. One distinctive identity. One fragrance built around it.

Instead of allowing the main ingredient to disappear among dozens of competing notes, the Pride Collection puts it at the center of the composition.

Pride of Musk gives musk the spotlight.

Pride of Oud gives oud the spotlight.

And the collection is only beginning. Future creations will explore other remarkable ingredients, including Pride of Vetiver, Pride of Rose, Pride of Amber, and many more.

The word “Pride” represents our confidence in each featured ingredient and our desire to explore its character through a unique, modern interpretation.

For Pride of Oud, that philosophy is taken to its fullest expression.

With Hindi Oud oil, Cambodian Oud oil, and a real Malaysian oud wood chunk inside the bottle, oud isn't simply one part of the formula.

Oud is the hero.

Selecting the Notes

Have you ever seen an oud fragrance with a real oud wood chunk inside the bottle?

That question became one of the defining ideas behind Pride of Oud.

Creating Pride of Oud was complex, yet in another way, remarkably simple. We already knew what we wanted to create before we began. The fragrance direction was clear, the key ingredients were selected, and with three generations of perfumery experience, we had a strong understanding of how we wanted the composition to develop.

The real question wasn't:

“What can we add to an oud fragrance?”

It was:

“What can we add to oud without taking away its identity?”

That question shaped every decision that followed.

The Oud — Three Expressions of Character

We decided that Pride of Oud should not rely on a single oud profile. Instead, we wanted to bring together three different expressions of oud, each contributing something unique.

Malaysian Oud Wood Chunk — Oud You Can See

Have you ever seen a fragrance with a real oud wood chunk inside the bottle?

With Pride of Oud, we wanted to make that part of the experience.

The bottle contains a real Malaysian oud wood chunk, allowing the natural wood to remain immersed in the fragrance.

As the oud wood rests in the perfume, its natural oils gradually interact with the fragrance, contributing additional woody depth and character over time.

Malaysian oud wood can offer a rich combination of incense smoke, dark woods, earthy warmth, subtle leather, and delicate aromatic nuances.

But for us, the wood represents something even more important.

You don't simply smell the oud.

You can see it.

Hindi Oud Oil — Dark, Raw & Powerful

Hindi oud oil brings the strongest traditional character to the composition.

It opens with a deep, raw, earthy, and smoky personality, with intense animalic and leathery nuances.

As it develops, the sharpness begins to soften, revealing a warmer combination of rich woods, dark sweetness, and subtle balsamic depth.

Hindi oud gives Pride of Oud its darkness, power, and unmistakable traditional oud character.

Cambodian Oud Oil — Warm & Naturally Rich

Cambodian oud oil brings a different side of oud.

It is rich, warm, and deeply woody, with a natural sweetness that can develop into nuances of dark caramel, resin, honey, soft woods, and subtle fruitiness.

Compared with the raw intensity of Hindi oud, Cambodian oud helps create a smoother and more rounded experience.

Together, the three oud elements create a much more complex foundation:

Malaysian Oud Wood — natural, woody and evolving.
Hindi Oud — dark, smoky and powerful.
Cambodian Oud — warm, rich and naturally sweet.

But there was still one major challenge.

Building a Base Without Hiding the Oud

Once the oud foundation was established, we faced one of the most important decisions in the entire creation process:

How do we create a soft, smooth, woody base without overpowering the oud?

We experimented with different directions.

We explored sweeter bases.

We explored citrus-based ideas.

We explored floral directions.

But eventually, we returned to a combination that felt right from the beginning:

Sandalwood + White Musk.

These two ingredients gave us the softness and smoothness we were looking for while allowing the oud to remain the unmistakable identity of the fragrance.

Sandalwood — Softening the Wood

Sandalwood brings a warm, creamy, smooth, and softly woody character to the composition.

Unlike sharper woods, sandalwood has a softer texture, with creamy and slightly milky nuances that make it ideal for rounding out powerful woody ingredients.

With oud at the center, sandalwood performs an important role.

It softens the darker edges of the oud without removing its character.

Oud provides the depth.
Sandalwood provides the smoothness.

Together, they create a richer and more polished woody foundation.

White Musk — Creating the Soft Finish

The second supporting ingredient is white musk.

White musk brings a cleaner, softer, and slightly powdery quality to the composition.

This was important because we didn't want Pride of Oud to become nothing more than a dense, dark oud fragrance.

White musk creates contrast.

Against the powerful character of Hindi and Cambodian oud, it introduces a cleaner and softer dimension, making the overall composition feel smoother and more wearable.

It doesn't compete with the oud.

It gives the oud room to breathe.

The Composition at a Glance

Fragrance Element Ingredients Purpose
Oud Foundation Malaysian Oud Wood, Hindi Oud, Cambodian Oud Depth, richness, character & identity
Woody Base Sandalwood Creaminess, softness & warmth
Softening Accord White Musk Cleanliness, smoothness & balance

Every ingredient has a purpose.

Nothing was added simply to make the formula more complicated.

The oud creates the identity.

Sandalwood creates the softness.

White musk creates the balance.

And the real Malaysian oud wood inside the bottle adds another dimension to the experience.

The goal was never to create a fragrance around oud.

The goal was to create a fragrance where oud remains the reason you remember it.

The Real Challenge — Balancing Oud

Creating Pride of Oud was complex yet surprisingly simple.

Complex, because oud is such a powerful material that even a small change in the formula can completely change the fragrance.

Simple, because from the beginning, we knew exactly what we wanted:

The oud had to remain the star.

We didn't want to create a fragrance where oud disappeared behind sweet, floral, or citrus notes. We wanted every supporting ingredient to work around the oud without overpowering its natural character.

The hardest part was creating a base that felt soft, woody, smooth, and refined while allowing the oud to remain unmistakable.

During development, we experimented with different directions—from sweet and citrus accords to floral combinations. But each version taught us the same lesson: the supporting notes had to be carefully controlled.

Eventually, we returned to the combination that felt right from the beginning:

Sandalwood + White Musk.

Sandalwood gave the composition the creamy, soft, powdery woodiness we were looking for, while white musk added cleanliness and smoothness.

Neither was meant to compete with the oud.

They were there to frame it.

And that balance became one of the most important decisions in creating Pride of Oud:

Oud provides the depth.
Sandalwood provides the softness.
White musk provides the clean finish.

The result is a fragrance where the oud remains present from the opening through the dry down, while the supporting notes make the experience smoother, richer, and more wearable.

With three generations of perfumery experience behind us, we knew that the goal wasn't to add more ingredients.

It was to know when to stop.

And for Pride of Oud, that meant letting oud speak for itself.

Perfecting the Formula

Perfecting Pride of Oud was about one thing above all:

How do we make the oud stronger without covering up the oud itself?

We already knew the direction of the fragrance before we began. We wanted to work with three different expressions of oud—Malaysian oud, Hindi oud, and Cambodian oud—and bring them together into one unmistakably oud-centered composition.

Hindi oud brought the deep, raw, smoky, earthy character.

Cambodian oud added warmth, richness, natural sweetness, and a smoother woody character.

Malaysian oud became even more special because we placed a real Malaysian oud wood chunk inside the bottle, allowing its natural oils to release gradually into the fragrance.

But bringing these three oud profiles together was only the beginning.

The next challenge was creating a base that could soften the oud without overpowering it.

We experimented with different directions—sweet, citrus, and floral accords—but eventually realized that the fragrance didn't need more complexity. It needed the right support.

That's where sandalwood and white musk became essential.

Sandalwood gave the oud a soft, creamy, powdery woodiness, making the darker oud facets smoother and more refined.

White musk added a clean, soft finish, creating contrast against the deep and powerful oud.

The formula was refined until every ingredient had a clear purpose.

Hindi oud gives the depth.
Cambodian oud gives the warmth.
Malaysian oud gives the natural oud character.
Sandalwood gives the softness.
White musk gives the clean finish.

And most importantly, nothing was allowed to take the oud's place.

The final formula was created with one principle:

Don't hide the oud. Let the oud speak.

The Oud Inside the Bottle

One of the most distinctive things about Pride of Oud can be seen before you even spray it.

There is real Malaysian oud wood inside the bottle.

We didn't want oud to exist only as a name on the label or as a note hidden somewhere in the formula. We wanted the physical bottle to show what makes this fragrance different.

The real Malaysian oud wood chunk is placed directly inside the perfume and remains part of the fragrance as it matures.

As the wood sits in the fragrance, its natural oils gradually interact with the perfume, adding another layer of authentic oud character over time.

For us, this is more than a visual detail.

Oud has a long history in Middle Eastern and South Asian fragrance culture. It comes from a real piece of wood, carries its own natural character, and develops its aroma through the oils within it.

So we wanted the bottle itself to tell that story.

You don't just wear the oud.

You can actually see it inside the bottle.

That is what makes Pride of Oud more than an oud-inspired concept.

The oud is in the fragrance. The oud is in the bottle. The oud is the identity.

The Final Fragrance

The finished Pride of Oud is exactly what we wanted from the beginning:

Rich. Deep. Woody. Powerful. Unmistakably Oud.

From the very first spray, the oud takes center stage.

The combination of Hindi oud, Cambodian oud, and Malaysian oud creates a layered oud experience—deep and smoky, warm and woody, slightly sweet, earthy, and naturally rich.

Each oud brings its own personality, but together they create one powerful identity.

As the fragrance develops, sandalwood begins to soften the composition with its creamy, smooth, powdery woodiness. White musk then adds a cleaner, softer dimension to the dry down without taking attention away from the oud.

And inside the bottle, the real Malaysian oud wood chunk remains a visible reminder of what this fragrance is about.

The final result isn't designed to be a complicated fragrance filled with unnecessary notes.

It is designed to let one ingredient speak louder than everything else.

Oud.

Pride of Oud is for the person who doesn't want their fragrance to quietly disappear into the background.

They want people to notice.

They want the room to carry a trace of oud after they leave.

They want to experience the depth, warmth, and tradition of oud in a modern fragrance.

Pride of Oud doesn't ask oud to share the spotlight.

It gives oud the entire stage.

What Makes Pride of Oud Different?

Pride of Oud is different because its identity is clear from the very beginning.

This isn't a fragrance where oud is simply one note hidden among dozens of other ingredients.

Oud is the reason the fragrance exists.

We built the entire composition around it.

The combination of Malaysian oud, Hindi oud, and Cambodian oud gives Pride of Oud multiple dimensions—deep, smoky, earthy, warm, woody, and naturally rich. Each oud brings its own character, while together they create a powerful and unmistakable oud signature.

Then we added sandalwood and white musk for one purpose: to balance the intensity without taking away the identity of the oud.

But perhaps the most distinctive element is something you can actually see.

A real Malaysian oud wood chunk sits inside the bottle.

It connects the physical presentation of the perfume with the very ingredient that inspired its creation.

Pride of Oud isn't trying to make oud disappear behind a complicated formula.

It is designed to make you experience oud, recognize oud, and remember oud.

And that is exactly what the Pride Collection represents:

One remarkable ingredient.

One distinctive identity.
One modern interpretation.

Naming Pride of Oud

The name Pride of Oud comes directly from the philosophy behind the collection.

The word Pride represents the importance we give to the featured ingredient.

In Pride of Musk, musk is the hero.

In Pride of Oud, oud takes that position.

The name therefore describes both the fragrance and the philosophy behind its creation.

Pride of Oud is our celebration of oud.

It represents the depth, heritage, complexity, and unmistakable character of one of perfumery's most distinguished materials.

And it is only one chapter of the Pride Collection.

Future creations will continue this philosophy through ingredients such as vetiver, rose, amber, and more.

Conclusion — The Pride of Oud

Pride of Oud began with a simple idea:

Give oud the attention it deserves.

We didn't want to create another fragrance where oud was simply one ingredient among many.

We wanted to create a fragrance where oud is the identity.

Malaysian oud brings rich woody depth and the experience of real oud wood inside the bottle.

Hindi oud adds a deep, earthy, smoky, and leathery character.

Cambodian oud brings warmth, natural sweetness, and a smoother woody dimension.

Sandalwood softens the composition with creamy, powdery woodiness.

White musk adds a clean and refined finish.

Together, these elements create a fragrance that remains unmistakably oud from the first spray through the dry down.

But Pride of Oud represents more than a single fragrance.

It represents the philosophy behind the Pride Collection—our belief that exceptional ingredients deserve to be celebrated, not hidden.

With Pride of Musk, musk takes the spotlight.

With Pride of Oud, oud takes the spotlight.

And the collection will continue exploring remarkable ingredients such as vetiver, rose, amber, and more.

Pride of Oud is deep, powerful, luxurious, and unapologetically oud.

Most importantly, it represents what happens when we take one extraordinary ingredient and give it the pride of place.

One remarkable ingredient.

One distinctive identity.
One modern interpretation.
